Hybrid Bt Cotton NSPL, characterized by superior yield and excellent fiber quality, has been the market leader in Hybrid Cotton Seeds since 2000. Commercial cultivation of Bt Cotton started in India in 2002. By 2007, Bt Cotton was marketed by more than 25 companies in India. Though all the 25 companies utilized the same technology, the principal differentiating factor of NSPL hybrids to farmers, was the superior attributes of the germplasm. NSPL hybrids, by virtue of their superior germplasm attributes, were able to convince and satisfy the farmers need for increasing farm outputs. The sale quantities of NSPL Bt Cotton hybrids in the last five years (as detailed below) stand testimony to this fact.

Demand for the Bt Cotton hybrids of NSPL has grown by leaps and bounds during the last five years. Today NSPL is the market leader (> 35 % share) in sale of Bt Cotton Seeds in India.
