Research and Development

NSPL's R&D division can be given full credit in discovering many a world-class hybrid seeds. The main centre is located near Hyderabad, which is engaged in developing superior hybrids and improved variations of different crops like, cotton, maize, rice, bajra, jowar, sunflower, vegetables, etc. The huge R&D facilities collectively exceed 600 acres. In addition to this, multi-location trial centers have been set up in different agro-climatic zones to evaluate the adaptability of various products and screen them w.r.t. biotic and abiotic stresses. As an ultimate measure to ensure consistent quality, NSPL tests its products at reputed national and international research institutes such as, IRRI Philippines, ICAR and State Agricultural.

Infrastructure and Manpower

NSPL has around 150 experienced technicians and workers involved in R & D and its facilities are spread over seven satellite farms near Hyderabad.

NSPL has always excelled in developing products as per the requirements of the farming community. NSPL started its research in cotton breeding and later expanded its R&D into other crops like rice, maize, jowar, bajra, sunflower, vegetables, etc. In addition to cotton hybrids, NSPL sells the largest volume of its proprietary rice varieties among the private sector seed companies in India. It has a record of regularly participating in the trials of the All India Coordinated Projects of various crops of ICAR. Again, it has developed products, which in the course of time have become notified hybrids. Today, the popularity of Subeej Seeds (brand name of the NSPL seeds), among the farming community is the sheer result of its emphasis on rigorous R&D and stringent quality control. Subsequently, the research program was expanded to give impetus to new crops in different geographies. The future plans of NSL include major investments in biotech research platforms, especially application of molecular tools for crop breeding and developing transgenic traits in focus crops. It has a team of about 150 qualified and experienced scientists who specialize in various crops.

The following table gives the details of the various research centers of NSPL Seeds along with the crops that are being handled at the respective centers.
